Calgary fire crews were on scene of a two alarm house fire in the southeast community of Mahogany Friday morning.

The fire broke out at a home on Mahogany Square SE around 11:20 a.m.

Crews arrived to find heavy smokes and flames coming from the home. Callers to the 660 NewsRadio traffic centre reported flames being visible from Stoney Trail in the southeast.

No one was in the home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

Crews were able to extinguish the blaze using two water towers and hose lines.

High winds were a factor in fighting the fire, according to the fire department.

“Wind gusts were reported to be over 80km/hr and a second alarm was called due to risks of fire rapidly spreading to neighbouring homes,” said CFD spokesperson Alex Kwan in a statement.

Crews remain on scene monitoring for hot spots. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

Calgary faced strong wind gusts throughout the morning, prompting more than 200 emergency calls over a 24-hour period.
