It’s a cold wet day in Calgary, and persisting rain has caused some issues on major roadways.
Calgary police closed southbound Tsuut’ina Trail between Glenmore Trail and 90 Avenue SW due to localized flooding for nearly 12 hours.
It reopened to traffic shortly after noon Tuesday.
Rain began falling Monday evening and 10 to 20 mm is expected to fall Tuesday, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).
The rainfall is expected to tail off by Tuesday evening. A rainfall warning that was in place for the City of Calgary ended in the early afternoon.
Tuesday will also be rather chilly, with a high of just 11 C. Thankfully, the cool weather isn’t expected to stick around.
“Fortunately, it’s only going to be one day of that — back to 22 C on Wednesday and then 27 on Thursday,” explained ECCC meteorologist Eric Van Lochem.
Although this summer has seen what feels like a ton of rain, the weather agency says the amount rainy days in Calgary this year has been around average.
Recent weather events have delivered more precipitation, and ECCC says that’s likely due to warmer air being able to hold more moisture.
