A Calgary man is facing charges after police say he sexually assaulted two different women after meeting them on dating apps.

Investigators say in June 2023, a woman began talking to a man she met using a dating app, and several months later, in September 2023, met him in-person for a date.

After the date, police say the man invited the woman back to his apartment and she agreed. They had consensual sex and the woman stayed the night at his place.

The next morning, the woman was sexually assaulted by the man, according to investigators.

She immediately left his apartment.

She reported the incident to police in January 2025.

In another case, police say a different woman met the same man on a dating app in December 2024, and after going on a couple dates throughout the month, agreed to meet him at his apartment for their next date.

During her visit, police say the pair briefly engaged in consensual sexual activity. However, a short time later, the man began to sexually assault the woman.

The woman left the home, and reported the incident to police in January 2025.

Following an investigation by the Calgary Police Service Sexual Assault Investigative Unit, 36-year-old Tuoyo Barnabas Sado has been charged with two counts of sexual assault.

A piece about consent

Before engaging in any sexual activity, consent must be given by both parties. Consent means agreeing to each sexual encounter, including kissing, touching or intercourse with another person.

Sexual contact with a person is never acceptable without clear, voluntary and specific consent. People are free to change their mind about consent, at which point the unconsented sexual act must immediately stop.

In Canada, there is no time limit on reporting a sexual assault. Anyone who believes they are a victim of sexual assault is encouraged to report it, even if many years have passed since the incident.

Anyone with information about this incident or similar incidents is asked to contact police at 403-266-1234 or submit a tip to CrimeStoppers.
