A Calgary man and woman are facing charges after police say they were involved in several cases of credit card fraud.
Investigators say 47-year-old Jonathan Keith Holmes was released from custody on April 28 and was actively being monitored by the Calgary Police Service’s (CPS) Prolific Offender Engagement Team (POET).
POET officers were conducting checks on Holmes to make sure he wasn’t engaging in criminal activity following his release.
However, just weeks after his release, police believed he was once again committing crime, and began an investigation.
Investigators believe Holmes was involved in a series of fraudulent transactions including the use of stolen and cloned credit cards at local businesses.
Police say he is responsible for at least seven fraudulent purchases.
On July 23, while he was attempting another fraudulent transaction inside a store in the northwest, Holmes was located and arrested by POET and members of Alberta Sheriffs.
Two people believed to be associated with him were also taken into custody.
Several warrants were executed as part of the investigation, including one on a vehicle of Holmes’s, where $3,200 worth of pharmaceutical drugs, and identification embossing machine, and break and enter tools were found.
Holmes has since been charged with five counts of possession of a forged credit card, possession of identification, use of a forged document, and two count of fraud. His next court date is Thursday.
An alleged accomplice, 38-year-old Danielle Ehmann, has been charged with personation with intent and obstruction of a peace officer. She is next scheduled to be in court on Monday, Aug. 11.
The third person arrested alongside Holmes in July was released without any charges.
