Police in Surrey are investigating after a home was targeted by gunfire Wednesday morning.

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) says it was called to 57 Avenue near 148 Street around 4:40 a.m.

Responding officers confirmed damage to the residence and evidence of shots fired.

“The residence was occupied at the time of the shooting, and fortunately, no one was injured,” said an SPS statement.

Police add that the incident is suspected to be related to extortion, and the Extortion Response Team is investigating.

Local resident Kristy Kula says she woke to the sound of gunshots.

“It was out of a deep sleep, so it was about five or so that I heard. Bang, bang, bang, in succession,” said Kula.

After 20 years in the neighbourhood, she says nothing like the shooting has ever happened so close. But Kula says she’s not worried.

“It’s funny. The neighbours are like, ‘Is it time to move?’ But I’ve always felt safe, and it’s a very good community.”

Anyone with information on the suspects or video of the shooting is asked to contact the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca and quote file number 26-49687 (SP).

As of Wednesday, the SPS said 108 extortion crimes had been reported in Surrey in 2026, affecting 59 victims, including 17 shots fired and two arsons.

Chief Norm Lipinski stated that in 2026, Surrey has seen a decline in both reported extortion threats and extortion related shootings.

“These lower numbers do not lessen the impact on victims, but they do show that sustained enforcement, prevention and community engagement efforts are making a difference.”
