The mayor of Waterloo and the city councillors could be getting a pay raise, but not until the next term of council.
A report is coming up at a Waterloo City Council meeting on Nov. 17 about remuneration.
If a change in pay is approved, the mayor’s annual salary would go up to $132,000 per year from the current $116,000.
Councillors’ annual part-time salary would go up to $58,000 from $44,000.
Also, the annual cost-of-living policy would be made to be the same as the annual increases in the current Staff Association agreement, and council members would join the OMERS pension plan.
The leased vehicle car allowance option for the mayor would include a mileage reimbursement to be set at 40 per cent of the staff mileage rate.
The report from staff indicates that pay and benefit increases would “be effective for the next term of Council, November 15th, 2026,” so all these changes would not benefit the current mayor and council, unless they are reelected.
