More plaques have gone missing in Cambridge, this time from memorial benches in Riverside Park.

City of Cambridge officials confirmed to 570 NewsRadio that bronze plaques have been taken from two such benches, “among other locations in the city.”

They added that this type of occurrence has been going on “over the past few years.”

Recent thefts of a similar nature include the theft of a large plaque from the Park Hill Dam police memorial, commemorating an officer who lost his life trying to save a boy who had fallen into the Grand River.

The municipality said it reports all such plaque thefts to Waterloo regional police; however, officers could not confirm to 570 NewsRadio any recent reports on the benches at Riverside.

The statement said the city has been replacing stolen bronze plaques with stainless steel plaques, using tamper-proof fasteners, and adding that all new memorial benches will have stainless steel plaques.
