The Mayor of Kitchener shared some words of approval for the Doug Ford government’s fall economic outlook and fiscal update.

Mayor Berry Vrbanovic issued a statement on Thursday afternoon after the government presented A Plan To Protect Ontario at Queen’s Park.

The mayor commended the government “for its continued commitment to protect our jobs and protect our economy.”

Vrbanovic added that he is “pleased to see investments in our local economy.”

He specifically mentioned the advancement of the construction of a wider Highway 7 between Kitchener and Guelph.

He also appreciated seeing the commitment reiterated for two-way, all-day GO service along the Kitchener Line.

Vrbanovic said that service will reduce commute times and “unlock new opportunities for residents, businesses and institutions across Ontario’s innovation corridor.”

The mayor also had positive comments for province-wide initiatives on housing, the fund for trade and business diversification, and the increase in the Ontario Electricity Rebate.

Vrbanovic made no mention of anything he considers wrong or missing from the economic update.

He said the City of Kitchener will continue to work collaboratively with the Ford government on shared goals and investments, and calls for “an all-of-government approach to support a collaborative and long-term infrastructure program for a stronger economy, more housing, and in support of our growing community.”
