The Halifax Mooseheads fell 4-2 to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies on Saturday night at Scotiabank Centre.

The Huskies controlled the first period. William Vézina opened the scoring at 4:39, tipping a shot past Owen Bresson. Halifax native Charlie Baningno added to the Huskies’ lead at 17:34, knocking the puck into the Mooseheads’ net for his second of the season.

Shawn Carrier put Halifax on the board at 10:25 of the second period, prompting toques to rain onto the ice as the Mooseheads celebrated their annual toque toss. Oleg Kulebyakin started the play by recovering the puck behind the Huskies’ net, finding Kilfoil in front, who sent the puck to Carrier for the finish into an open Rouyn-Noranda net.

Benjamin Brunelle restored the Huskies’ two-goal lead at 7:31 of the third period, driving to the Mooseheads’ net and chipping the puck past Bresson. Patrick McNab responded less than 20 seconds later with his second of the season, assisted by Paulo Gualberto Jr. and Amelio Santini. Lars Steiner scored his fifth of the season to once again restore the two-goal lead and secure the win for Rouyn-Noranda.

With the loss, Halifax falls to 14-9-1-1 on the season.

Brunelle earned first star of the game for the Huskies with a goal and an assist. Second star went to Mooseheads netminder Bresson, who made 42 saves in the loss, while Vézina was named third star with a goal and an assist.

The Mooseheads will be back in action Sunday, Dec. 7, as they host the Val-d’Or Foreurs.
