Police have arrested and charged five people in connection with an alleged card game scheme at a southeast Calgary casino.

Investigators say two casino employees worked with three patrons to issue unearned winnings during card games between Oct. 31 and Nov. 19.

The fraudulent activity came to light after casino management staff noticed suspicious transactions and launched an internal investigation, which they then shared with police.

On Nov. 19, at around 3:20 p.m., officers were called to the casino for reports of theft and fraud. Police arrested two men and three women at the scene.

The accused are between 57 and 48 years old. Each faces one count of fraud over $5,000. Two of the accused are also charged with criminal breach of trust.

All five are scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 22.

Anyone with additional information about the case is urged to call police at 403-266-1234. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers.
